Meet your hosts
Welcome to our family’s favorite place in the world.
Smoky Signature is not a hotel and it is not an investment spreadsheet. It is the home we searched for, chose and filled with care, so that your family can feel what ours felt the first time the fog lifted over these mountains.
Chapter oneA long road to this porch
I came to America as a young student from halfway around the world, with a suitcase full of hope and a head full of science. What followed were the long, demanding years of a PhD: late nights in the lab, experiments that failed far more often than they worked, and a quiet determination that this country would be worth every sacrifice.
Like so many immigrants, I also carried a weight most people never see. Years of paperwork, waiting and uncertainty. Building a home, a career and a family while never being completely sure we could stay. I have lived in New York, New Jersey and Texas, and each place taught me something about the generosity of the American people.
Chapter twoThe life that left no room
By every outside measure, I had made it. A respected career in scientific research, a wonderful husband and two little boys. But my days started before sunrise and ended long after dinner, in a big, busy city where traffic and meetings swallowed the hours. I missed bedtime stories. I missed small moments I can never get back.
I kept telling myself it would slow down next year. It never did.
Chapter threeFalling in love with America, all over again
What saved us were our national park trips. Desert canyons, rocky coastlines, giant trees and wide-open skies. Our boys started collecting Junior Ranger badges, and I started seeing this country with new eyes: the grandeur of it, the freedom of it, the sense that this nation, under God, had been given something truly magnificent to protect.
In 2025, I finally made the leap. I stepped away from corporate life to take back control of my time and give it to the people who matter most. I wanted my boys, then seven and three, to grow up with dirt on their knees, rocks in their pockets (only outside the national parks!) and a deep love for the land around them.
Chapter fourHundreds of houses, and then this one
We looked at hundreds of properties across the Smokies. Many were beautiful, but too many sat at the top of steep, scary roads, or were laid out in a way that kept families apart. I knew exactly what I wanted, because I was shopping for my own family.
- An easy arrival. A level lot and gravel drive, with no white-knuckle switchbacks after a long day of travel.
- A pool you can actually watch. The heated indoor pool sits right off the living and dining rooms, so parents can relax while the kids splash.
- Room for everyone. Space for grandparents, cousins and friends, with a table where all of you can share a meal.
- Close to the quiet side. Minutes from the Wears Valley entrance to the national park and the Foothills Parkway.
The day we walked through this house, I knew in the first five minutes. Our boys ran straight to the pool, then up to the game loft, and did not come back down for an hour.
Every detail, chosen as if for my own boys
Because it was. I am a scientist at heart, so I research everything, and I take enormous pride in the small things most guests may never notice, but always feel.
- Water I trustA reverse-osmosis drinking-water faucet in the kitchen, because I care what my own children drink.
- Sleep that restoresFresh linens and towels, and beds and pillows chosen with our own family’s sleep in mind.
- A kitchen for real mealsAn Instant Pot, a coffee maker for pods or a full carafe, and a table that seats the whole family.
- Joy for little onesA teepee nook, magnetic tiles, train tracks, giant games and an arcade in the game loft. My boys are the official testers.
- Peace of mindA level lot, a keyless smart lock and clear house rules, so the grown-ups can truly relax.
- Room to breatheAbout an acre of lawn, a fire pit, a hot tub under the stars and a porch made for morning coffee.

The rest of our crew
- My husbandA busy professional, a passionate photographer and our family’s outdoorsman. He has lived everywhere from the Gulf Coast to Michigan, loves hiking and whitewater rafting, and is usually out before sunrise with his camera. Many of our favorite local tips started as one of his early-morning adventures.
- Our seven-year-oldCurious about everything, especially rocks and wildlife. He has a growing collection of Junior Ranger badges, a little camera of his own, and opinions about every trail in the park.
- Our three-year-oldOur resident wildlife spotter, chief pool tester and the loudest “DEER!” in the Smokies. He follows his big brother and his dad everywhere, camera in hand.
Back in our busy life, everything moved fast. Here, everything stops, the way the fog settles over these hills in the morning and simply rests. Tennessee has become as dear to us as any place we have ever lived, beautiful in every one of its four seasons. Every time a guest writes to say their kids did not want to leave, I feel the same joy I felt the first time I saw my own boys fall in love with this place.
